Health & Disease
The Health and Disease programs integrate the study of health and disease, and teach the underlying principles governing the response of living organisms to environmental conditions (both exogenous and endogenous) that cause disease. Students will receive a solid foundation in life science courses together with insights from the humanities and social sciences.
Students will discover that the pathologic process is not pathologic at all; it is the normal or physiologic response of the body to an environmental perturbation and the term "disease" is used to describe the "end stage" of the process. The program thus allows students to study health and disease from a variety of disciplines within the biomedical sciences, humanities, and the social sciences without the restrictions of a discipline-based program.
