BME498Y1: Biomedical Engineering Capstone Design

What is BME498Y1?
BME498Y1 is a full-year, 1.0 FCE capstone design course in which teams of students from diverse engineering and science backgrounds work together to identify an unmet clinical need and develop an innovative biomedical solution.
Students engage in the full medical technology design process, from needs finding and concept generation to prototyping and evaluation. supported by lectures, hands-on practicums, and guidance from instructors, clients, and project supervisors.
This course is open to Human Biology students by application.
Enrollment & Eligibility
How to Apply (Human Biology Students)
Arts & Science students must submit an application form through the BME Undergraduate Office. Successful applicants will be contacted to confirm enrollment and will be manually added to the course.
Application Timeline

Team Formation & Project Supervision

Teams typically include 4 students

Students may form their own teams (with instructor approval to ensure balanced backgrounds)

Project supervisors are embedded in the course, students do not need to find their own supervisor
